Green Machine Ensembles

Dr. Chris Troiano formed the 8th Green Machine Regiment Band and began working for the Green Machine Ensembles in 2017. Since 2021, Chris has been the Historical Ensembles Program Manager, a position where he serves as the Ensemble Director for the 8th Green Machine Regiment Band and as an administrator for the Patriots Fife and Drum Corps.

As a historical low brass performer, Chris has had the opportunity to perform with the Old Bethpage Village Brass Band, Newberry’s Victorian Cornet Band, the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Band, the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band, the Fort Delaware Cornet Band,  Beck’s Philadelphia Brigade Band, the Yankee Brass Band, and Music of the Regiment. Chris performs frequently on serpent, ophicleide, and various valved low brass instruments including Bb tenor, Bb baritone, Bb bass, and double-bell euphonium.

As a contemporary euphoniumist, Chris performs regularly with the Capital Wind Symphony and the City of Fairfax's Alte Kameraden German Band. He has had the opportunity to perform as a guest with the United States Air Force Band, the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own", and the United States Military Academy at West Point Band. He has performed solos in front of the Capital Wind Symphony, George Mason University Wind Symphony, the George Mason University Symphonic Band, the Huntington Community Band, the Park View High School Wind Ensemble, the Centreville High School Wind Ensemble, the George Mason University Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, and the Alte Kameraden German Band.

As a presenter of historical band music, Chris has given presentations at the United States Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop in Washington DC, the Northeast Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference (NERTEC) in Fairfax, Virginia, and at the Historic Brass Society Symposium in New York City. Additionally, Chris is the co-host of the Early American Brass Band Podcast, a podcast focusing on 19th-century band music in the United States.

As an educator, Chris has taught low brass private lessons to students of all ages, as well as directed sectionals, masterclasses, and marching bands. Chris frequently adjudicates Solo and Ensemble and All-Region auditions in Northern Virginia. He has also taught numerous classes at George Mason University, including Fundamentals of Music, Class Brass, and Musics of the World. Chris has also conducted and the George Mason University Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble and the 8th Green Machine Regiment Band.

Chris' dissertation is titled From Antiquity to Academia: A History of Early American Brass Bands and a Way Forward for Their Adaptation within Institutions of Higher Learning. His doctoral lecture recital was Expanding the Early American Brass Band Repertoire.
